Marshfield Utilities (MU), located in Central Wisconsin, seeks a General Manager to be the visionary leader of this public power utility that provides water services for the 19,000 citizens of Marshfield and electric service for approximately 13,000 meters. The utility is governed by a five-member Utility Commission elected by the City Council. MU generates annual revenues of $35 million and boasts some of the lowest electric rates in the state. MU is nearing the completion of replacing electric and water meters with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). The utility is staffed by 47 full-time employees. Ideal candidates for General Manager will offer a proven track record of management and senior leadership that includes at least ten years of success in the utility industry. Expertise should include enough breadth and scope of experience to allow the General Manager to work at a strategic level. Candidates should possess a broad understanding of electrical generation, distribution, and transmission. In addition, candidates should possess expertise in water utility operations, policy matters, financial and people management, business negotiations, and member/customer relations. A Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, finance or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or education is highly desired but not mandatory. Annual base pay will be commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and experience. While there are no living restrictions, it would be preferable for the General Manager to live on the Marshfield Utilities electric distribution system.
